User Ratings and Reviews
5 Stars enlightening
An empowering book, the author makes no excuses for abusive men nor does he engage in blaming victims. Written in plain language with no “psycobabble”.
5 Stars I finally understood
For weeks after my fiance’ returned home drunk one night and began an ordeal that ended with him chasing me down the street as I screamed into the phone to a 911 operator, I wondered what had gone so wrong with my relationship. What had I done? What didn’t I do? After reading this book I realized: nothing. It was not me, it was him. It wasn’t that I wasn’t good enough, or “fun” enough, or sexy enough and there was nothing I could have done that would have made him not cheat on me or not do drugs or any of the other things I blamed myself for.
I truly thank God I found this book. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who has ever been in an abusive relationship.
5 Stars Excellent to help family & friends of abuse victims
I bought this book to help me to understand the situation of my sister, who is divorcing her abuser. Goal accomplished! On page after page, I saw my brother-in-law’s behavior. Lundy Bancroft hits so many points with unerring accuracy. He seems to have an insight into that most scary place, the abuser’s mind.
5 Stars A must-read for Stephanie Meyer fans
I recommend this book all the time for fans of the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer.
5 Stars Excellent Book
As a therapist, I found this to be the best book I have ever read on understanding men who are batterers and controllers. I highly recommend this book to anyone who really wants to understand, “Why?” I was really surprised when I found out a man had written the book! Lundy Bancroft really calls it like it is. A must read for anyone who wants to look inside the mind of men who control and who abuse women.
