3 Stars Worth the listen
This audio is packed with good information but the plan is too extreme for most anybody to follow. Yes! you will lose weight if you eat like a caveman … I think most people figured that out on their own. Its hard to take advice from someone who has never been overweight. It does however give detailed information how the body uses different foods and what to avoid in your diet. Worth it if you want to loose weight or just want to eat healthier. I used bit and pieces of this info with my own exercise plan to loose my last 25 lbs. and at age 50 I feel great at my desired weight!

5 Stars White sugar is the cause !
Dr. Hyman was right on when he said that sugar is one of the two most inflammatory sources one can eat in one of his other books. Inflammation in the intestines can cause obesity! Thirty two years ago I had to eliminate refined sugar from my diet for health reasons such as high and low blood sugar. I stayed off it for 6 years. It was the only thing that I changed in my diet. I gradually lost weight. I lost so much that one could see my ribs. But for those 6 years I maintained the same weight. I did not exercise or change my lifestyle during the no sugar diet. When I added refined sugar back into my diet the weight came back. Around 20 years ago I was standing in the check out line in a grocery store and read an article in a trash mag. that spoke of a diet that one can lose weight by not swallowing food but to just taste it and spit it out. I took that advise and applied it to my sugarless diet and I got the same results. When one chews gum one chews it, enjoys the flavor and then spits it out. One does not need to swallow sugar to enjoy it!!!!! It does not need to go down your esophagus to enjoy it. Also, this will satisfy your sweet tooth. Swallow the good stuff and not the bad! I call this the ” SWALLOW NO GUUUK DIET “. Don’t do this in a restaurant(hee hee)!

I have read this already and now am basically using this as a reference book.

5 Stars Well-rounded, reasonable, easy to follow advice
I’m shocked that anyone would give this book 2 or 3 stars. I’ve been dieting since the age of 9, and have read more books on the subject of health, weight loss, and fitness than I can count. “Ultrametabolism” offers great advice on how to “reboot” you body if you haven’t been eating so well. There’s no counting calories, protein, or fat grams, and you don’t have to cut out enitre food groups, like carbs. The first two weeks on the plan, you have to refrain from all potentially allergenic foods [peanuts, dairy, wheat, etc.] to give your body a break from anything that may be hard on your body; that you may be allergic to. He also recommends drinking a few cups of his “detox broth”, which you make yourself using a variety of fresh organic veggies of your choosing.

The plan is essentially a whole foods lifestyle. After the first two weeks of detox, you can slowly add things like organic dairy and whole wheat into your diet. There are lots of tasty recipes included, like coconut dal, cashew chicken, and lemon salmon. They’re all pretty simple to prepare for anyone who cooks even a little. Not to sound like some crazy informercial, but during the two week detox part, I lost 14 pounds. The author says you can expect to lose 9 to 11 pounds in the detox phase (mostly water weight, likely). I started the plan right after the holidays though, so I’m sure it was a shock to my body to go from egg nog and pecan pie to fresh fruits and veggies, plus I’m very obese [240 lbs], hence the dramatic weight loss. After that, I lost the typical 1 to 2 pounds a week.

With all the health and diet books I own, this is the one I always recommend when friends and family ask what i suggest to help them eat better without the fad diets. A sample day on Dr. Hyman’s plan would be quinoa with peaches for breakfast, lunch would be black bean and avocado tacos on corn tortillas, salmon with spinach, brown rice, and vinegarette for dinner, and snacks are fresh fruit and raw nuts. As you can see, the focus is on unprocessed foods, without refined sugar and saturated fat. Every time I start to veer away from healthy eating and get distracted by holidays, parties, etc., I always go back to this book to help me refocus and remind me of the basics of good eating.

5 Stars Ultra Metabolism, Dr. Mark Hyman
This book was amazing!! I don’t have a specific health problem nor do I have a significant amount of weight to lose. I purchased the book after seeing Dr. Hyman on tv and had been looking for a different way of eating to be healthy and drop 5 lbs. Well it worked! I lost 5 lbs in the first 2 weeks and feel fantastic! I love the fact that I’m never hungry and have tons more energy. Even my horrific PMS symptoms have gone away. I realized after reading & starting to eat the way Dr. Hyman recommends, I was eating way too many carbs, sugar and “empty” foods. I now either eat no carbs or very little depending on the day. I read all labels when I grocery shop looking only for natural ingredients. I’ve added good fats and got rid of all the “low” “no” fat foods in my house. I cannot say enough great things about this book. I recommend it to anyone who wants to keep their weight down or just wants to start feeling good.
