5 Stars great book
The author is opinionated, she has a good, usually research-based explanation behind her opinion, rather than saying what’s normative in this country. I really enjoyed reading her profound and well-thought takes on different topics regarding pregnancy.
5 Stars The very best book on pregnancy and childbirth!
I first read this book as a Master’s student studying the differences in birthing practices between the US and Britain. I have since become the mother of 4, giving birth twice in a birthing center and twice in a hospital. The US medical system is designed to be interventionist, to place all faith in a doctor’s opinion and an insurance company’s bottom line, BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE! This book will give you the tools to ask the right questions, understand general medical practice regarding birth and obtain the birth situation that you desire to achieve. Pregnancy and childbirth are natural processes, not diseases and in most cases, a woman’s body will work just as God designed in bringing life into this world. Read this book cover to cover if you want to be an active participant in the early development of your child rather than a science experiment and spectator. Happy birthing!
5 Stars great book!
This book is very informative, well written, and easy to read. I read another one that was very opinionated. This one gives their opinion, but in a very un-biased way.
5 Stars best pregnancy book
when i was pregnant with my first child i had gone into barnes and noble and picked up the first pregnancy book i could find….what to expect when you’re expecting. not sure what the cramping was that i was feeling i looked it up in this book, which told me worse case scenario that it was a miscarriage. i threw the book down, talked to my homebirth midwife who then told me i should be reading this book. i bought it and have read it cover to cover through both of my pregnancies….have recommended it to countless women ……..and have used it as a reference in my midwifery work. this book is a must have. sheila kitzinger knows what she’s talking about. please pass it on.
